We got 20 calls about the new Magrudergrind CD last night, and as you all know, one phone call equals one billion people. That means 20 BILLION PEOPLE were offended by the new Magrudergrind CD.

When I think of things that are beneficial to the scene, I think of mass producing it through a car company and allowing a whole legion of posers to get into the scene to party hard and like, pick up mad chicks bro. Say have you heard of this band The Devil Wears Prada? They're mad sick. Magrudergrind should like, totally tour with them so I can make out with my date at the show until the bouncers tell us not to, in which case I'll throw my rebellious middle finger in the air and tell him he can take away my Volcom hat and cut my shaggy hair, but he can never take away my freedom. HAHAHA

I will get around to e-mailing them today rather than talking smack. But is the shipping and materials cost for a 10" really $6?

THIS. I will get around to e-mailing them today rather than talking smack. But is the shipping and materials cost for a 10" really $6? I agree @ the statement being kinda weak too. A little more effort would have gone a lot longer way with me. And I don't really care when bands sign to new labels - I've seen all this before with the grunge-indy scene. I can also see Scion setting up some sort of fulfillment company for these 'free' releases, or hiring a place that already does order fulfillment. Which would end up costing you $6. Cuz they'll be paying order packing people, using new 10" or LP mailers, paying rent, etc...

also factoring in international shipping

merely FYI::
$6 - paypal = $5.52 - postage = $3.14 - mailer = $2.47 answer: no. when one orders from Magrudergrind, the money goes to their hotmail address. i went through the process up until actually paying. the price only applies in the US, by the way.

You guys are funny...thinkin scion gets nadda outta this
with all the love / hate on scion every time a band gets their record done through em, their name being mentioned online grows fucken exponencially hahaha
truth is 10-20 years down the road, half the people drop off the diy bandwagon and "sellout" / Settle down, have a family, get a morgage and a car n shity diapers......
what im trying to say is, now yer being bombarded with scion this scion that - i hate scion , blablabla....but 20 years down the road, IF , diy dont mean shit to you, you wont be hatin' on scion because they paid for a release of a band you liked and were outraged....
You will just associate scion to shit you were into when you were younger....its just pure psycho-logics
and now I KNOW im gonna get flamed for having said that, but thats just how it fucken works man.
call yourself clever, call yourself smart, say itll never happen to you.....but in the end we are all fucken stupid
thats why psychology , propaganda, and all that crap works.
id also like to point out that, perhaps scion is a twin company of toyota, but toyota's budget has nothing to do with scion , thats not how business works.
on another not, while everyone is trying to sell minivans to moms, suv's to dad, and nice cars to young entrepreneurs n shit. NOBODY is exploiting the market of younger consumers, who at the moment cant afford a new car but later on in life will......a generation who defines themselves GREATLY in association with art...
while everyone is marketing for sales now, scion is preparing for the future.
and as a last note, donation, investments in arts -yaddy yaddy yadda,.....all that shit is tax deductible...you really think they doing this to lose money hahaha
its an INCREDIBLE marketing scheme, and ARENOT PAYING A PENNY FOR IT PROBABLY...
its like R&D - that shit is tax deductible too..

Its a scion psy-op. Also the economic principal of predatory pricing kind of comes into effect. TLAL couldn't do a $6 ppd 10".

Maybe $7.50ppd if we include recording costs. too bad we dont all have $3000 lying around just to prove a point.

You guys are funny...thinkin scion gets nadda outta this... Never even thought that. I've said what they're getting; dirt- cheap highly-focused marketing targeted to 18-34 males. Same demographic that the UFC and all the companies that sponsor them target. Same as Kia. And of course 'arts money' is a write-off, otherwise corporations wouldn't care about anything beyond stockerholders and profits. Write offs and promo are icing on the big bidness cake. geeheeb, one quick question: I don't know what your anti-Scion song is about - is it anti-car, or anti- them horning in on the underground scene, or???

I think it comes down to... it is really confusing to try to deem it bad that a car company comes in and spends money on this. If you find the company evil, then their marketing still is failing and you have a product for free on their dime.
Again it is a weird position a band you like put you into, but it was their choice and they are backing it fully. It is then your choice to reject the band.

i could care less about all this, as long as the band is aware they are just tools of Scion, even if the best is ment behind this gesture, as noble as it can be, it comes down to them being a marketing tool.
It;s easy to judge something when you are not in the situation, especially behind the comfort of your seat behind your screen. I say, discuss it with the band next time you see em, instead of flappin yer gums on here.
You'll get straight up answers from the concerned people. Talk less trash, and perhaps you'll get it, from their point of view.

I keep trying to decide whether this would be more or less offensive if it were just some upstart band who didn't have any support in the first place. The rationalization reeks either way. Putting aside how one feels about this specific record, it will reverberate down the line for bands that are ready to be the next grinding Green Day. It's long term market cultivation, the same way punk rock bible study is. All they have to do is cull the idealogical dropouts. Let em sell cars to people in a showroom or on TV like everyone else.

it's kinda tricky to find. i cant look at it while i'm at work because we don't have a lot of flash plugins, etc. but there's definitely information on there about them at least sponsoring shows/fests. it's under music > metal sessions.
