Selling my Sunn enforcer and picking up an svt-3 non-pro plus a little cash left over for bills/more equipment. It'll be nice to mess around with a hybrid amp for once because I've always used tube for bass.
Also, couple dudes I know who are pretty much exclusively into bad hippie music but somehow are way into gear and building shit just acquired a nice mounted saw and basically all the tools I'd need to build a cab so I may do that. Ripping the two hartke 10" speakers I already have out and putting them in a 4x10 with whatever else I may decide on.

A local musician has one of those SVT's, and however he has it dialed in sounds amazing (I think he's playing through an 8x10, no pedals). Huge sounding amp. Also, cab building is awesome, get on that shit!
EDIT: I got way excited when I saw there was a new post in this thread

Yeah, the expanded eq will be nice because that means I can use my eq pedal on the 200s for better tone shaping when I bi-amp.

I too get excited for gear posts, haha. We need more pictures. I'll post the svt when it gets here, it's in rough shape, plus rack mountable, so not very sexy, but whatever. Maybe I'll build a nice case for it.

Glad other people in this thread are drummers. My current setup for HOD (as in right this minute, since I'm always changing things): 5x14" snare 8x10" tom 8x12" tom 10x13" tom 16x16" floor 18x22" kick All my drums are Ludwig except the 13", which is a Peace from my first kit. 14" Zildjian hi-hats (actually I use two bottom hats, ZBT+ on top and Scimitar on bottom) 14" Paiste Alpha china 14" Zildjian A Custom crash 16" Zildjian Z Custom rock crash 24" PA Meinl ride (with a mega shark bite) 20" Zildjian A Custom crash (another shark bite) 18" Zildjian ZXT Titanium china Plus other surprises for when I'm feeling saucy. good to see someone else can play fast with a single kick I just started using a double pedal in HOD. All our recordings to date have been done with a single. I still insist on playing regular blasts with one foot. But if I wanna go Cryptopsy/Origin-style nuts then I throw in the extra pedal. I use a Yamaha Flying Dragon, which I hated for the longest time until I got used to the action on it. Now it's great. What do you mean by shark bite? Those meinls are real nice.

Mike probably isn't going to respond, but I assume he means it's got a big ole chunk missing.

Anyone ever fucked around with baritone guitars? Listening to Lords of Light recently and saw they used one, so I was curious.

Anyone ever fucked around with baritone guitars? Listening to Lords of Light recently and saw they used one, so I was curious. I actually came to post that I got an 8-string guitar, good timing! I've played a few bari's and thought they were very cool. Took some time getting used to the scale length, but that's about it. Great for playing in lower tunings without needing tow cables for strings. I also have found I liked the baritones with decent active pickups more than ones with passives.

I wonder if I'd like playing a 7 string guitar since I lay in B and never stay in tune. Do they usually have thicker strings too?

The normal EADGBE on 7+ string guitars are usually a set of regular .10 gauge strings, in my experience. As for your tuning woes, I'd try a guitar that has a 25.5" or higher scale length and tune down to B before looking into a 7 string.

What guitars have that scale length? They're probably all butt ugly too

I can't think of any make that carries anything you'd be interested in, haha. Maybe there's an Agile LP copy that has a longer/baritone scale length. Or if you like ESP Viper shape, they made Bari versions of those guitars that are pretty good players. Other than that, replace your tuning keys/nut with something locking/better and switch to thicker strings. Looks like Rondo carries a 27" scale baritone LP copy under their Douglas brand, although it's not a white guitar like I know you'd prefer. www.rondomusic.com/SHADOW627bkflame2.html

there HAS to be a way to tune low and stay in tune without changing to thicker strings.

There is! One way usually involves moving the saddles on your bridge back, thus making the scale length of the guitar slightly longer, depending on the type of bridge you are using. Also, if your strings do not pass through the nut straight through to the tuning keys, as opposed to "changing direction" after they pass through the nut, you'll find the latter type of guitar will have more tuning/intonation issues than the other, especially if the headstock isn't angled back a bit to compensate for the change in string direction (compare the way strings are routed on a Fender Strat as opposed to say, a Gibson SG or Explorer). A well-made nut (lol) is more critical in maintaining tune than one would think!

Here's the current iteration of my bass rig. Furman Power condition powering my Ampeg SVP Pro with a Ashly PQ16 Parametric EQ and DBX 160a Compressor in the effects loop. I'm running all those into a Crest Pro-Lite 3.0 3000W power amp running Stereo mode into dual 4-ohm Avatar Neo 4x10's I don't have any pics of my pedal board at the moment, but it's pretty fucking stupid, as is my 6 string fretless bass. I play a lot of KoRn covers (not really), what can I say.

an 8x10 is all but a necessity if you're gonna roll with guitarists running 4x12 cabs with all these Laney, Mesa, Marshall and JCM heads. The guitarists in my band are paint-strippingly loud. I had to add the second 4x10, and go with even more power thanks to those two assholes.
