I need to jam the first three more often, I'm a sucker for their more upbeat numbers so I tend to go for the mid - later portion of their discography. I'm actually listening to Renegade now and I kinda forgot how good this one is. 'The Pressure Will Blow' is a killer song.
edit* I think the reason I don't spin this one as much is that, while it's a good record, they do similar things better on the couple of records that precede this one.
I still think 'Dedication' is the quintessential 80's radio jammer and had it actually been released in '85 when Lynott demoed it (instead of '91) every radio station in the country would have been blasting it simultaneously on repeat and the 90's would have never started.

I will do my best to not blow my fanboy load here and keep this concise...
They strike me as a 'musicians band' in that a lot of what they're doing really appeals to me as a player and the vast majority of people I know who really dig them are musicians themselves. That real tight kinda 'in-the-pocket' drumming, the dual harmonizing leads, the bass work, Lynott's voice, the songwriting, that swagger the fast ones have in spades... it's just all crafted incredibly well and you can tell that those dudes really loved playing. The early stuff isn't my forte but as for the mid to later albums, they just rock, man. No other band sounds like Thin Lizzy.

well, I get that song cold sweat. I looked it up and it turns out to be a Sykes creation, so that explains that. It doesn't have that end of summer/roll the credits/ bummer vibe that all the other songs have.

end of summer/roll the credits/ bummer vibe that all the other songs have. haha yeah, a lot of their stuff kinda has a bit of a somber vibe. There's also stuff like Emerald and Roisin Dubh.

Every time I pick up a guitar, I'll either play the licks in Emerald that come after the verses, or the middle part of Roisin Dubh. So catchy, so fun to play. thin lizzy rules. i dont know how you can be into rocking even part time and not like em. ^this

I hope they do a hometown record release show, because those types of shows with the bigger bands from NOLA are always fucking NUTS and incredibly fun. This song is cool, sounds like classic faster EHG. Stoked for the new album again.

Down has a new album coming out this year, too. So I'm sure something will go down in NOLA.

Ah yeah, I forgot about that. I haven't been too keen on Down for a while, but they also have some pretty rockin' shows. Kirk isn't playing with them anymore, I wonder how that will change things up...

Dopesick is probably my favorite of theirs, that album is full of zingers, where the other three have some songs I don't enjoy quite as much. My favorite zinger from that one:

You dudes know about this? Yup, wanted to rerelease this on pro tape, but the vinyl is so cheap still that methinks it wouldn't be necessary.
