Hi. I'm Cole. I'm a punk who lives deep in the MS woods.I live a simple country life with my wife and kids. I love vinyl and extreme music. Ive mostly been involved in the Goner scene(I live about an hour from Memphis) but my taste has kind of gone past garage punk. I've been listeningto a lot of Japanese hardcore lately........ mostly old stuff like Gauze and Confuse but also newer stuff like D Clone and Forward. Read about this label in MRR and figured Iwould order something. Any recs? Another person in MS, nice! Hour from Memphis, eh? You around the Southaven/Olive Branch area?

I know you said your internet was pretty slow so if bandcamp is too much of a hassle I'm sure you can get physical copies.

No,no......those places are to crowded for me. I live in Union county in the "Alpine Community" about fifteen min from New Albany. Also I live fairly close to Oxford which has a record store and a punk show now and again. Jackson huh? Do you know of Overnight Lows? They are a great garage punk band from Jackson. Have you ever bothered to check out the punk history of our state? There is one! Ed Nasty and the Dopeds.......Johnny Vomit and the Dry Heaves......a few others. Anyway , let me know if anything else is happening music wise in Jackson.

hey cole! to answer your question powerviolence is kind of a vague term based around a scene of bands that existed in california in the early 90s, lots of current bands from all over the world influenced by that scene have sort of co-opted the term and applied it to their own music but lots of those original bands sounded very different from one another so it's pretty open ended. it generally refers to a style of ultra-fast hardcore punk (grindcore speed without the metal influence), slow heavy parts/lots of abrupt tempo changes are a common feature... check out Capitalist Casualties, Crossed Out, Neanderthal, No Comment, Lack of Interest and Infest and also newer bands like Backslider, Sidetracked, Xbrainiax, Hatred Surge, etc. for a pretty good idea of what the term encapsulates musically. welcome to the board!

And yes, I was quite surprised to have heard about all the punk bands that were from MS. My band's old bass player used to go out and see those bands when he was younger and always had some rad story to tell about them, haha. As far as the Jackson scene nowadays, it's steadily growing. More people/bands are playing around town, all types of music.

I love the Reigning Sound live at Goner LP. The version of Drowning on there is the best one.

Awesome. I think we internet bonded over MS punk. I'd be interested in hearing your band. Fucking do it man. It's harder here in the deep south, where love of god, guns, and hate of every thing non-traditional rules our daily lives. I hope your playing the most fucked up shit Jackson has ever heard.

And yeah, that Reigning Sound lp is boss. Greg Cartwright is pretty great. I've kind of moved into harsher territory...........but there's room for all of it.

Cam just posted something in the Funky Jungle group about it being one of the best shows the house has ever had and all I can do is agree. Probably the show of the year so far.
