My current grind rig: Jacques Tube Blower pedal How is this thing? They seem awesome from reviews and stuff I've heard online but I haven't had a chance to play with one in person yet.

Glad other people in this thread are drummers. My current setup for HOD (as in right this minute, since I'm always changing things): 5x14" snare 8x10" tom 8x12" tom 10x13" tom 16x16" floor 18x22" kick All my drums are Ludwig except the 13", which is a Peace from my first kit. 14" Zildjian hi-hats (actually I use two bottom hats, ZBT+ on top and Scimitar on bottom) 14" Paiste Alpha china 14" Zildjian A Custom crash 16" Zildjian Z Custom rock crash 24" PA Meinl ride (with a mega shark bite) 20" Zildjian A Custom crash (another shark bite) 18" Zildjian ZXT Titanium china Plus other surprises for when I'm feeling saucy. good to see someone else can play fast with a single kick I just started using a double pedal in HOD. All our recordings to date have been done with a single. I still insist on playing regular blasts with one foot. But if I wanna go Cryptopsy/Origin-style nuts then I throw in the extra pedal. I use a Yamaha Flying Dragon, which I hated for the longest time until I got used to the action on it. Now it's great.

Gibson SG Faded Special Crate 4x12 cab hooked up to Peavey Bandit combo amp Metal Zone pedal Was thinking of selling everything but the guitar since I'm failing to see the point of owning it. Okay, to be a bit more specific than this... I don't have the cab or the combo amp anymore, I sold them when I moved back up here. I still have the guitar and the pedal, the guitar is a cherry red finish, I've put a bunch of stickers on it because I know it's not going anywhere. I use D'Addario .010 gauge strings and use standard tuning. For the pedal I have all the EQ knobs turned up about 2/3rds of the way and the distortion knob slightly more than that. I don't have a big amp at the moment but I just use a Peavey Blazer (15 watts) around my place. Gets the job done. The SG is my second guitar. My first is a Yamaha Pacifica, though I don't think the exact model I have is on their site since all of those have a single coil at the neck and I have a humbucker there and at the bridge in addition to the single coil in between them. Surprisingly this is not a very powerful guitar and I'll probably be looking to sell it as I've just gotten back into gear hunting for the first time in years and there's a couple things I've wanted to mess around with. I have a bass that I never use partly because the electronics don't work and mostly because I don't have any real interest in playing bass. It's a Hofner semihollow (not one of the violin basses, it looks like an Epiphone Dot) and it's in a vintage sunburst color. There's also a 30 watt Fender Bassman amp I never use since the electronics on the bass don't work and guitars sound like fuckass through it.

I buy and sell distortion-type pedals pretty regularly, and that Tube Blower is a keeper. It's different from a typical tube screamer pedal in a lot of ways - no mid hump, seperate treble & bass controls, huge gain range, from clean-treble-bass boosts to overdrive to outright distortion. I use it for 'scoop boost' for slow parts instead of a lead / increased-sustain boost or always-on pre-input signal booster - tho it works perfectly for those if you're not looking for that TS midrange hump. It adds a decent bass and excellent treble boost without messing with the Ampeg's sharp tight distortion, midrange, and volume level. Silent switching, isn't a tone or signal sucker. If you can find a used one on evilbay or crankslist, snatch it up.

I totally agree with single footed blasts, they sound way different with a double kick, not neccesarily worse, just different. I've had a double kick for years now and i still haven't taken the time to get fluent with it.

alot of older bands from here like KRUSH blasted with single kick - and to me it sounds more oldschool i guess
what do you mean your ride has a sharkbite? - like a piece broke off?
i have a china too - and it cracked a few place, so i fucken welded it back it sounds ridiculously like shit - its soooooo noisy - which makes it totally cool!, it doesnt i guess vibrate like normal cymbals would - it just makes a big noise and stops haha
why do ya use 2 bottom hi hats? its what you had at hand?

what do you mean your ride has a sharkbite? - like a piece broke off? That's correct. why do ya use 2 bottom hi hats? its what you had at hand? My ZBT top cymbal developed a large crack, and suddenly my friend offered me a pair of Scimitar hats. The Scimitar top is waiting in the wings for when I finally crack my ZBT bottom.

Also, I do feel it's more 'authentic' to use single kick for blast beats. When a drummer has a double kick and just alternates between feet on a blast, I feel that's kind of weinerish. Plus I have tried that tactic and I can't make it feel smooth at all, anyway.

Plus I have tried that tactic and I can't make it feel smooth at all, anyway. Authentic is a good way to describe it. I've seen drummers pull off the whole double kick blast beat deal, and for them it worked real well. Personally, I lose my balance when I use double kicks for blasts and that shit fucks me up hard.

How much have you guys paid for a Boss HM-2 pedal? I used to be able to get that Entombed sound out of my Death Metal pedal, but the DM bit the dust.

Getting a 1974 Sound City 120R soonish, which I'm stoked about.

I paid like $50 for my HM2, which is cheap for any pedal in my opinion.

Ok. i don't play bass in Hypo Christians but since someone asked. Our bass player Ruben has a set up we call "The Earth Mover". Can't give out all his secrets because he will kill me but he has:
a 4x15 Peavey Cabinet 2x15 Mesa Cabinet he has both of those hooked up to an old Peavey bass head that i can't mention. Also a certain pedal he has been using since he started Splatterreah back in the mid 80's.
It basically sounds like a building on fire. That's the best way to describe it. Find the Splatterreah live 7inch and you will hear what i'm talking about.
Oh and he uses a very old Rickenbacker and plays with his fingers.

Guess I'll have to dough up the $$ if the HM2 pedal is in good shape. The skinflint in me is all emo Them tears is dollars. I bought and sold a bunch of stuff over the winter. Ended up with a Randall half stack, a Peavey 2x12, and a Crate head. And I just got a four way splitter, so I can run up to four amps at once - my setup for recording this extreme doom shit (and probably some noise or drone) is gonna be sick. I am seriously looking forward to warmer weather. And I hope my neighbors don't call the cops.

Very nice on the four-way. I didn't know they made those or I might have gotten one. I picked up the radial two-way so I can run my 200s with the Sound City when I get it, plus I picked up a Sunn 4x10. Shit's going to rule.

Ok. i don't play bass in Hypo Christians but since someone asked. Our bass player Ruben has a set up we call "The Earth Mover". Yow. It's got to be not-fun moving all that stuff. And finding a place big enough to set it all up! Very nice on the four-way. I didn't know they made those or I might have gotten one. I picked up the radial two-way so I can run my 200s with the Sound City when I get it, plus I picked up a Sunn 4x10. Shit's going to rule. That's gonna be some bowel churning bass action too. I've gotten a string of lucky finds over the past couple months. I just picked up the Nobels Split Four. Need to get a power supply before I can use it... For recording, I'll have; Guitar to split four box 1) Crate GT120HL into Laney 4x12 2) Ampeg VH140C into Peavey Triple XXX stereo 2x12 3) Randall Cyclone into Randall 4x12 4) Tube amp w/ 1x12 The Crate amp I found is the 120 watt version of the 300 watt Shockwave. It's light and easy to move, gonna try it out jamming with a local metalcore band tomorrow... The Peavey cab runs the Ampeg @ 4 ohms in stereo. Need to rewire it so it's 4 ohms mono instead of 16.

My buddy's got an ampeg 2X15, and that sucks enough to move. I can only imagine a 4x15. Al Cisneros from Om uses two Green 4x15s. Fucking ridiculous.

I checked out an old Sunn 4x15 about a year and a half ago, and quickly realised it would; a) end up sitting as a practice amp only b) shake my garage apart ;D (The guy that was selling it said it was the same for him) Now I have to go blog hunting...
