I don't do squeals, but I imagine that it would handle them.

i had a super distortion in for one day and I hated it. by squeals do you mean pinch harmonics or feedback squeals? my go-to pup is a dimarzio PAF Pro. for me it's rich and crunchy and has a slight BWOOUUU to it

What do you guys think about the DiMarzio super distortion, duncan jb, or duncan sh6 pickup? I'm not in love with the Lace D&G i just dropped in. not chunky enough and doesnt handle squeals that well. I have a normal uncovered Super Distortion humbucker in my Charvel strat copy, and it tends to sharpen everything up and keeps picking dynamics clear when using lots of gain. The JB is a lower output humbucker, but gives a fatter sound and is overall a better humbucker for keeping your playing sounding a bit cleaner. If you're looking for chunk I'd go with the JB. I know nothing about the SH6. Which guitar would this be going in, your Gunslinger?

Yeah, I think a JB would sound good in the Gunslinger, I'm actually thinking about putting one of those in mine and putting a higher output volume pot in there as well.

I'm with you on not liking super high output pickups, too. it's so hard to figure out how corporate gear descriptions will work out for playing extreme music sometimes.

Agreed. Ive also never tried an EQ pedal, maybe that would help a bit. i think one of those and a less "metal" distortion are gonna be my next investments. i just want solid palm muting crunch and im really big on adding 7ths my my p-chords so i want those to come through.

I like super high output pickups but a lot of them are kinda one-trick ponies. Right now I'm a big fan of '57 Classics and Texas Specials. So much tone possibilities with those, and the '57s are perfect for the way I pick notes. George get a fuzz pedal!

+1 on the 57's here

I like to take the tone knob out which gives a tiny tiny bit of clarity in the high end. I also like paf style pickups.

Think I'm gonna echo Ryann here and say get a fuzz pedal!
Both Rafay and I roll with a tube screamer/big muff combination (I actually use the BBE Green Screamer but it's the same thing) and I think it does a nice job of sounding heavy without sounding "metal" and still being able to hear what's going on.

Anybody have experience using a Fulltone Fat Boost (FB-3) pedal?

Anyone interested in a boss feedbacker? Pre-lawsuit, made in japan. I need to either replace or get one of my other pedals repaired and since I'm not working much, I'm kind of strapped for cash. Works great, I just don't really use it.

Played a KILLER American Standard Stratocaster yesterday at a local shop. I'm usually uninterested in guitars that have only single coils, but these were surprisingly quiet and spat fire when overdriven. The most comfortable, tonally versatile guitar I've played. I think I'm gonna put that sucker on layaway before someone snatches it up.
I also played one of the LTD X-Tone series (PC-1V) semi-hollow guitars, and it also ruled, but it was balanced a bit awkwardly and I couldn't get a feel for the Bigsby that it has. Very cool sounding, cool looking instrument though.

Upon seth's suggestion I just picked up an audible disease thirty three TT-1 (dod buzz box clone + octave despite the dumb name). I am not disappointed so far. Other than that I replaced the shitty input jack on my bass which seems to help with noise issues. I guess it was thirty years old and probably not great to begin with for a mid-level bass.

Dude, I also got that pedal per Seth's recommendation! Probably my favorite pedal I own. Mine's a TT-3, though.

Huh, don't see that on the site under current or past. You sure? What's the difference?

Whoops, it's definitely a TT-1, haha. I think the actual name of the pedal threw me off. Either way, it rules! I think I want pretty much everything else AD has made as well, especially the Schizodelay and that new reverb pedal they just put out.

TT-1 is the grossest distortion out there. Well other then the DOD Thrashmaster. I like pedals that clip out.

Just bought the small Ditto Looper that TC Electronics makes. The easiest-to-use, most compact, non-tone sucking looper I've played.

My roommate has one of those, I should give it a whirl someday.

Man, those little pedals rule. I previously had a Vox Delay Lab that had a looper function, but I was overwhelmed with all the shit that was on that pedal so I eventually got rid of it. This Ditto is so easy to use, and even has a mini USB port on it so you can save your loops to a computer and whatnot. The bigger Ditto (I think it's called the Ditto X2) has a bit more loop time and a speed up/slow down/reverse feature, but I don't really have a use for that right now. Maybe I'll trade out for it in the future.
I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the Echo Dream 2 pedal that Death By Audio makes, and then I'm done buying pedals for a while, haha.

I have one of those loopers too, super easy to use, but I haven't fucked with it a ton, aside from trying to do solo recording. I figured in a live setting it would be hard to juggle that and doing vocals. But I should give it a shot again.

Welp, I did it a lot earlier than I thought I would, but I traded in the small Ditto looper for the bigger one, for the sole purpose of being able to stop loops with a single tap instead of having to doubletap. I'm sure the reverse/half speed functions will be cool to mess around with though. Also picked up two Earthquaker Devices pedals on the cheap: the Disaster Transport Jr. delay, and the Organizer "Dracula riffs in a box" pedal.
Also snagged a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power so I don't fuck my pedals up. Done buying gear for a while, haha.
