O wait no I think I have heard of the endless blockage. they had a split with 50/50 right? No, that was Endless Demise. The Endless Blockade has a bunch of rad splits. Iron Lung, Hatred Surge, Warzone Womyn... Just myspace that shit, most bands have it.

but I'd take them over Phobia any day. At least guys from Sleep aren't racist wife beaters. Fuck a whole lot of Phobia. seriously? man that's a bumout. all that remains, enslaved, return to desolation, and the a side of destroying the masses is some of my favorite grind ever. somewhat unrelated, do you even like grind dude?

Yea, I was going to ask the same thing. Haha. The first Phobia 7" is cool because it's like profane existence crusty shit. After that though they kind of lose me.

I think we should get back to talking about MDF 7 Yea, I mean if I manage to come into a shit ton of cash I'd really like to go. It's a killer lineup but I can't risk the chance to see a band I never thought I'd see. I'd mainly like to see Kill The Client and Bolt Thrower.

Yea, it's going to cost $1000 for a round trip ticket to England. Sucks. On the bright side, the drinking age is only 18 over there so I can get smashed at the concert! Haha.

Indeed, I just don't dig IW (who seem to be a favorite around here) or Phobia. I'm sorry about possibly ruining Phobia for any of you, I thought it was common knowledge. I helped them out with a show or two in the past and both times Shane has managed to make me feel very uncomfortable with the amount of really fucked up information he's been willing to share. I give him some credit for at least admitting he's got some issues, and he didn't seem to be proud of it or anything, but both the word "black person" (repeatedly I might add) and the bit about hitting his ex did come straight from his mouth. I also should add the the rest of Phobia are stand up guys, who seem to just sort of tolerate him because they enjoy playing in Phobia.

I say black person or black people all the time. What's the big deal? My cousin's even black and I'm Sicilian, the so-called "niggers of Europe"! Haha.

bummer. i've heard other shit about shane being a dick. a few years ago at a show, i talked to steve the guitar player a bunch and he seemed like a really solid dude. what a bummer. although, i can TOTALLY see how some of their shit could be boring. mostly grind your fucking head, get up and kill, or cruel. the old shit is totally solid though.

I still think the music from everything up to and including Destroying the Masses is good stuff. I even put it on every once in a while. I just think it's a total turn off that he's such an ass, and I also find it hard to believe that even though it's fairly well known (or at least I thought it was) people still interact with them like they are some sort of legit "anarchist" grind band. It's sort of hard to spread the message of egalitarianism if you're beating girlfriend and slandering an entire race of people to express your displeasure with something totally unrelated. He even admitted to using the word a few times in the lyrics to Serenity Through Pain.

i like to pretend serenity through pain never happened. what a piece of shit. still bummed. this is the first i've heard about any of this. although, they are from southern california, and i'm completely convinced that smart people cannot possibly come from there.

MDF looks like it's a solid line-up this year. No way I can go though...too much family, not enough babysitting, or money.
The bands I'd really be stoked to see are Bolt Thrower, Grief and Endless Blockade, but I wouldn't scoff at the chance to see Pretty Little Flower, Unearthly Trance, or Today Is The Day again either.
Unfortunately, I also have shitty stories about one of the guys from Grief (the guy who was also in Disrupt, State Of Fear...etc. I think his name is Jay), but I'd be willing to put them aside to watch them rock again.

endless blockade RULED when i saw them last spring, but i think they're pretty boring recorded. i think newer bolt thrower is kinda boring, but i'd like to see them anyway.

wow, you know, i've played with Shane a couple of times, and he has been nothing but perfectly friendly, and a nice guy each time. if what you say is true, that's unfortunate. you seem to have lots of dirty little stories in your pocket that sway your palette into making "ethical" decisions as to whether or not you like a band or not. i don't feel that's trivial or anything, because i have a tendency react in similar fashion from time to time. Funny, I know Grief from way back, as well, and never heard about what you're referencing. this is not to say that any of it is false, or anything. again, it's one of those things that is a disappointment to hear about.
EDIT: there is something in my personality that decided that allowing the information initially divulged in this post to remain on the Internet was just not ethical somehow. you all, in this thread, that i was speaking to... know the background now, and know my position on the issue, so that's all that matters. in order to not malign the responses further down in the thread, i will restate more vaguely... i We had problems between a member of ______ (edited out) and the hostess of a house venue, that they played at, with us.
this was a little more sketchy than a fight someone had with their ex (especially when you don't know ALL of the details as to the nature of the incident. i mean, i've gone out with some pretty hostile women in my time, who were not afraid to get their knuckles dirty), but i digress.
it's still unsettling. these items, all from individuals in bands who are supposed to be the "other side of the coin"... the anarchos, equalitarians... fucking hypocrites. if this was from some macho cavemen death metal band, everyone would be like, "meh, typical."
short point- i try not to pass judgement against people based solely on rumors that circulate from people that i do not know, but sometimes it's difficult to keep an open mind when you here that stuff.
===============
I am not as much a fan of Holy Mountain or Jerusalem, although live, that shit is hot. Volume 1 was/still is my favorite work, by them. the little Vol.2 Black Sabbath 7" is funny, but kind of boring. i guess for me, it all stems from being into Asbestos Death, before Sleep formed, and preferring that older sound.
===============
with all of the sketchiness surrounding so many of the musicians in bands playing at MDF, i'm going to have to say... SLEEP, for the win!

I understand totally, really the only bad things I have to say about good bands is what I've said about Phobia, and that Jay(?) is the most disrespectful rock-star douche bag ever. If you want to know the story then ask, but I'll spare you the details.
I also understand that some people have bad days, etc. etc. Maybe this was the case with Jay when I helped with the State Of Fear/Shitlist show. Either way he was way out of line, and almost got the venue closed down due to his big man complex.
I really would love to believe that Shane is a good guy, as he was totally fucking cool until he started cornering me with this stuff about his daughter and how he hit his ex and started droppin' the n-bomb over and over again. A lot of people have said he's a prick when he's drunk, and I've watched him attempt to pick fights with friends of mine when he's drinking, but that's just the nature of too much booze. The issues I have with Shane stemmed from a conversation he initiated while he was totally sober.
That Maruta story sounds a lot like the Casualties while they where here about 10/12 years ago, incredibly similar stories. I've never heard Maruta, I've seen their stuff around though. Guess I'll probably avoid it at this point.
-------------------------------------- Back on topic sort of...
I never got into Sleep, now, I don't get high, so maybe that has something to do with it, but I love a lot of other stoner stuff so I don't know. I also really loved Asbestos Death, and I didn't really pay attention to any of the guys post Asbestos Death stuff save for ItIsI. I was surprised when Matt Pike popped up in a band that didn't blow (High On Fire), considering I was super bored by Sleep.

High on Fire is dope! (*sic*).
yeah, Jay Stiles was the Disrupt / SOF vocalist.
oh god no, i don't need any additional details on any more band personnel being asshats... i've got enough of those types of stories in my pocket from shit i've seen over the years as well, unfortunately. shit is depressing.
you know what i find wildly ironic though... the bands that seem to have the biggest problem with hypocritical behavior are the same ones that the uber elite PC collective have traditionally canonized as being the patron saints of their respective genres.
i agree with the assertion that sometimes it's just a bad day... but sometimes it's not.
================
oooh, here's my thread derail... The drummer from Phobia has started working with Eric Wood, on what is sure top be the new power. looks like some MITB'ish love is definitely on the horizon for the BN enthusiasts.
/hailz to all of the servants of the skull!

i already hated maruta even before reading that. i think that their music is pretty cool, and hell man, they were really nice. everyone was double fisting 40's & partying hard, when i left GSS puts everyone up that needs a place to lay their head (or they did, anyway), and people have been respective of their efforts, so i felt comfortable with leaving them there for the night. but the next day, when i talked to the the hostess about how everything went, and she told me that things didn't go over so well, i almost felt responsible, and more than a little bit angry. now i know that people fuck up and act like assholes, but i don't necessarily think that should justify an instant and unending condemnation... HOWEVER, i feel that sexually aggressive acts and repeated negative behavior & are not without reprehension, and should not be blind-eyed and dismissed.
