After all the talk in this thread and the fact that this guy was from Providence, I had to do it. I checked a Lovecraft book out of the library (The Call of Cthulhu and Other Weird Stories) and have already started reading a couple shorts. This is going to be much better than trying to read textbook-esque bullshit.

The Shadow Over Innsmouth is one of my favorites. If it's in there give it a read.

Pretty much immediately after I opened this book I was able to surmise where such and such from such and such big name two piece black metal band got his pseudonym from...

I just read Herbert West the Re-animator last night and it was by far my favorite stuff as of now!

Never read the book, but if you haven't seen the ReAnimator movie then you really need to get on that shit!

I returned the Lovecraft stuff a bit early. Yeah, The Shadow Over Innsmouth was a cool story, as was Herbert West, but I can only take so much "it was of an indescribable nature, if I tried to describe it, I would not do justice to blah blah blah."
Check out Sherlock Holmes. Haven't picked it up in days. Been kinda lazy about reading lately.

Check out Sherlock Holmes. Haven't picked it up in days. Been kinda lazy about reading lately. I got sucked in this past January and read The Return of, The Memoirs of, & The Adventures of within 2 or 3 weeks. Great writing, but the formula for every case is more or less the same. You can eventually start cracking the mystery halfway through every case, but there are a couple odd ones where there are no answers ever provided and Holmes is just like "Weird shit happens!" Best one is where Holmes is trying to escape his arch-nemesis, I guess the very last one written by Doyle, where he kills him off.

Been reading "Coltrane On Coltrane", which is the closest thing I'm going to get to an autobiography of John Coltrane. Mostly a collection of transcribed interviews, news articles, and letters, so far it's very entertaining. I love reading any autobiography of the old jazz musicians, especially the Miles Davis autobiography I finished recently.

Thread bump just reminded me of one more thing I should try and cram into my day tomorrow: check out another book from the library to read for the month.

David Sedaris is great. His earlier essays especially are a great mix of hilarious and depressing.

Man I haven't read R.A. Salvatore in a LONG time, at least since I was in middle school. I remember them being very entertaining...I'll have to get back into his stuff.

Currently reading a 33⅓ on 'You're Living All Over Me' by Dinosaur Jr. and a couple new zines/comix.
Trying to get my hands on some paperback Sara Douglass stuff soon, namely 'The Crucible' trilogy (historical fiction) and 'Wayfarer Redemption' (epic fantasy) series.

Heard a review for this book called "The Diesel" on npr the other day, written by a guy from the United Arab Emirates about some sort of transsexual demon. Sounded interesting.

I need to get back on reading The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami. I was making pretty good progress about a month ago and then class suddenly pushed that off.
