For starters, some good scifi: Dan Simmons - Hyperion & The Fall of Hyperion Really one of my favourites, this was really mind-blowing when i first read it. Really complex and epic. Should really read this again, and also Endymion and Fall of Endymion. Frank Herbert - Dune-series Other one of my favourites, especially the first novel is just great. I've only read 'til Children of Dune, the rest have been on my "to-read" list for a long time now. C'mon, it has sandworms:

I recommend both A Night Of Serious Drinking and Mount Analogue by Rene Daumal. A french surrealist Gjurdieffian writer.
As for movies? Eh, Dead Man comes to mind that isn't painfully obvious.

Not Sci-Fi but...
David Foster Wallace - Infinite Jest Even though it's a cumbersome and intentionally fucking annoying to read at parts, it's one of the best books I've read in the past few years. It's essentially about a ridiculously fucked up family and dealing with modern day bullshit and entertainment. Except the upper part of New England is all fucked up, and there's a separatist group from Quebec in wheelchairs that go around fucking people up, and a lot of the characters are, or have been, fucked up on a lot of drugs at some point in the novel.
Right now I'm reading Thomas Pynchon's Against the Day. Sci Fi elements to it since there are people flying around in helium balloons and shit, and it's full of Anarchists blowing shit up which is awesome and talking about how the rich are always fucking over the poor and how they deserve it (edit: they being the rich and it being getting blown the fuck up). Starts off with some campy dudes named the Chums of Chance though, which remind me of the fucking Hardy Boys or something, which is intentional, but still made it hard to get into.

I'm reading Consider The Lobster by David Foster Wallace, the guy's a damn genius. And I don't mean that literarily (hahaha) I mean he seems really intelligent.

Yeah, the guy has to be ridiculously smart to write some of that shit. I've been meaning to get some of his essays, but have only read his two novels so far.

Consider The Lobster is probably a good place to start, it covers a lot of topics.

Wonder if Choke is going to be any good? Not a huge Palahniuk fan but it probably worth seeing.

I just finished reading the Autobiography Of Malcolm X. It was very interesting, kept me occupied for a while, I recommend it.

I just saw Burn After Reading, and it was a odd movie... I kind of enjoyed it.. I guess.. The whole movie made me feel like that, like I didn’t know what the fuck was going on for the first 30 minutes.. I was thinking it was going to be a normal dark comedy but I was wrong... it was so dull but it was still entertaining... wierd stuff...

Recently went and saw Burn After Reading, loved it. Watched Atonement last week, it was interesting. Some of the camera work was great. Watched that Sharkwater documentary yesterday, pretty decent. Watched The Bourne Ultimatum (haven't seen the first two) and Rendition (for a second time) tonight at a friends' place. Also re-watched Terminator not that long ago.

It wasn't terrible, they cut out a few things that I thought were kind of important. It was only an hour and a half, so they really could have put a few more of the book elements in. All in all not the worst movie I've ever seen, glad I went and saw it.
