Hey there, i was wondering if you guys can help me:
In the recent months a wave of hardcore macho style has spread like fire in my hometown.Mostly kids ranging from 14yrs to 21yrs that suddenly started forming hardcore bands and groups, and are spreading hate and violence lyrics/banners to other kids.
We have this cool squat opened for 5 years in the center of town, we had in these five years more than 2000 shows there withs bands from jazz to hardcore back to grindcore and experimental stuff. In these 5 years we NEVER had a figth inside the squat and we allways promoted a non-violent lifestyle.
Last week the kids started a huge fight, like 20 kids involved plus the other kids that just go to flame it more.
It was really bad, and the worst is that kids feel that what they did was correct because "it was right to hit first" or "its the hardcore way".Bullshit.
We are preparing a few words to make some flyers trying to ban this from happening again, and i was wondering if you fellow grinders do know of some texts in the internet talking about this, or want to share a few lines (people with bands) for compiling them.
We dont have troubles with hardcore scene, we just dont aprove the message that some bands are spreading in the last few years, getting more violent and homophobic.
So, please help!! We would be very appreciated.

Flyers is probably the most limp dicked way to go about this, that's going to be wholly ineffective.

flyers can initiate conversation better than consternation or banning.

we dont have the same squats here in the USA, but if we did have something sweet i would work really hard to hold on to it. maybe try to make the kids know that there are potential consequences for the venue / bands / promoters for their fights.

Unless your "brocore" kids are different, giving them a flyer is like giving them a ticket to fight. I'm sticking by that.

flyers can initiate conversation better than consternation or banning. Ideally, yes. Realistically, this will fall flat. This only really works for keeping smaller Nazis out of shows, but that's it. Just tell them all about unity, bro:

And we do.Believe me that having a squat in Portugal is much more than having some problems with "kids and cops".We have a major fight with city hall and secret services, tons of times when some tv stations talks about black block or extremists they use flyers and posters of gigs and other activities we organize (i.e. bike shop/hactivism/social meals/trade fairs/etc...) and we had our shares of cops storming in the place and lawsuits. We know that brocore gigs bring this kind of audience, but we dont impose promoters to dont bring them, because after all we want to show them that there is an escape of being another social clone, like all the rest of the flock. If in a brocore gig 100 kids come, and 5 of them gets interested in something we do, or promote, we did a fine good job.If we give them a flyer here, kids will try to read it, if they want a fight, sorry but no chance.I think we can handle a few kids, and beside we dont need to bash them to stand a point. Of course, that whit this post i just wanted to some research and maybe get to know people here that aren't on this JUST by the music (but if you are, no problems by me) but for the ideals behind this. Unity?Gang shit, no thanks..
