i agree. SATA is now pretty much in control of the market. you know, for the money, you're really just as good to go ahead and just get a new ext hdd. i have a Fantom GF 1000Q 1TB ext. HDD (supports eSATA). you know what the big catch is with SATA?... The bandwidth difference really only looks good on paper. the fastest 3.5" SATA drives you can buy, still do not exceed 85 MB/s. So, that data transfer rate of 300 MB/s between a PC and a SATA drive cannot thus be matched by the drive's speed. maybe one day...

SATA is so much better, but the IDE is from my old desktop computer that doesn't get used not day one. I just don't want the thing to go to waste and would love the extra space. (waste/space rhymes kinda)
thanks for the tips so far!

no, i understand wanting to use the IDE HDD. why waste what works (and has a decent storage capacity), right? srsly. i have tons of old EIDE HDDs of various storage capacity, just hanging around to re use for whatever, whenever.
I just got an eSATA card to put in my Ghost server, so that i can attach the Ext HDD's SATA cable. mobile secondary hot-backup for my server & desktop OS images. While the SATA xfer rate may not be optimized yet due to technological shortcomings(like i was saying earlier), it will still beat the shit out the USB xfer rate i get from the ext. HDD now.
