I wonder what y'all think about this. I think that compared to even 2 years ago, grind is in a slump. It didn't seem too long ago that it was hard to keep up with all the new records that I wanted to buy, and that mid to bigger sized bands were putting out records with some consistency.
I know that there's a global recession or whatever so labels aren't putting out as many records, but even in terms of trying to find other releases to trade for when doing label stuff is becoming more difficult. Also feel free to let me know about awesome newer bands that I might not know about that I can check out. I always like finding out about new music and I haven't been able to do that lately.

All I can think of is the Noisear/Sean/Superbad split 12" that just came out. It's on Torture Garden though, so I dunno. I know some people are kind of weird about them/him or whatever.

I thought about checking this out, I like superbad, but I'm not into noisear at all. I have a feeling that noisear AND superbad will do too much of the weird shit that I don't care for from either band, so I'm probably gonna pass on that. He also just put out a Machetazo/ Winters in Osaka collaboration but I don't really like machetazo either.

You heard Sean? The only keyboard grind I can think of. I guess they do a couple collabs on the album as well as a MITB cover. So it sounds like they might do some weird shit. Might not be up your alley, certainly sounds like it for me though. You've heard that Worlds band right? I just picked up their demo cd-r that just came out. Pretty solid. www.noidearecords.com/display/?search=worlds

Worlds is awesome, I wish they'd hurry up and do some records. That's kinda what I'm saying, things are going so slow now. I'll probably have to wait like another year before Worlds has any records.

It's also possible that you may have burned out, and the kind of bands you cut your teeth on may not be doing it for you anymore. This is how I've been feeling. But the fact remains, there are a zillion bands now and very few of them are doing anything interesting with grind or any kind of hc/punk. (They all seem to want me to hook up a Boise show for them tho.) Superbad doesn't do any weird shit. They keep it pretty straight ahead. Their execution is awesome, and that's what counts.

This is what I've been starting to think, but it bums me out for sure to think that all the excitement and novelty is gone for me now that I've figured out what I like and don't like. I guess it was a little foolish for me to think that it was a genre of music, and not myself that had changed, but I'm only human. Of course, this is the reason why I even bothered to post about it, because this is a forum for open discussion. So I'll keep my eyes and ears open for the next thing to catch my attention, and hopefully it will come sooner than later.

I feel like I've been shifting more towards metal lately, but not full fledged yet.
I'm starting to think the best way to maintain enjoyment of a genre is to avoid contact with other fans of it. When you find like-minded people, it seems like you talk about it a lot and it accelerates the nullifying of it tenfold.

Anything that's good gets bastardized. Look at what happened to hardcore. 80's hardcore was awesome. 90's hardcore was tolerable. Can't say there is too much left.

Everyone needs to stop looking for the next "big thing" I feel. Look what has happened to The Waste (not grind, but a good example), now Insect Warfare seems to be cashed in on (they still rule, but holy fuck it is almost too much). Lots of kids wanting to sound like the big bands, do your own thing. Worship SMG like a few of us here do. That will quickly get you out of your grindcore slump

Maybe I have resentment over this statement because of being around New Brunswick punks occasionally who romanticize the 80s without looking at NJ bands from then (and probably their own backlash to 90s NJ), but there were still plenty of interesting developments that came out of the 90s. Shit, considering how many people here probably listen to powerviolence and how many CT guys here listen to any New England crust from the past, I think that I shouldn't be the only one here who thinks that you're underrating that decade as "tolerable."

I totally disagree with you on topic. Do you care to elaborate at all? I was looking for someone to disagree with me, not so that I could argue via the internet, but to give me a new perspective so I'll stop feeling dissatisfied. Are you still in CT dude?
