I mostly read books on science, politics and religion because I'm an insufferable turd but I noticed most of you guys read a lot of fiction and I am interested in reading some of the canon star wars novels and wondering if any of you dudes have read any and have any suggestions. I've read shadows of the empire and enjoyed it. I know my brother read one called Death Troopers, basically about zombie storm troopers. Apparently its pretty good, but I don't know how canonical it is. Lately I've just been reading out of my philosophy and electronics textbooks, but once finals are over I can ditch that shit.

i wanna start reading RA Salvatore. Where the fuck do i start exactly? Even though the Icewind Dale trilogy was technically written first I would recommend starting with The Dark Elf trilogy that was written as a prequel a couple years later. Starting with the Dark Elf trilogy will give you a lot of back story into why the events that occur in the Icewind Dale trilogy are so significant, personally, for Drizzt. Here's a link to the full list en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legend_of_Drizzt#Forgotten_RealmsFinished the Ghost King and the first book of the Neverwinter series, Gauntlgrym. and now about half way through this

Re-read the metamorphosis, forgot what a bummer it was. Spoiler alert, son works ass off to support entire family, gets turned into a giant bug for no karmic reason, feels further isolated then curls up and dies to relieve his family the stress.

I finished reading Ender's Game some time last week and then all my spare time was spent on Sega ROMs. I think it's time for a new book. There are more in this series, aren't there?

There are. I forget what the sequel is called... I never read it, but the companion book that focuses on Bean during that same time period (Ender's Shadow) was highly enjoyable if I remember correctly.

A friend of mine was telling me about Ender's Shadow, but I don't think that's related to the Ender's Game series directly, I think at least two books came right after Ender's Game from what he was telling me...

Yeah, I'm not sure when it was written in relation to the other books, subject matter wise it is set in the exact same time as Ender's Game... just from Bean's perspective. I think I remember hearing that the actual sequel wasn't all that good... was it Toftness who said that?

Since I didn't read scifi or fantasy as a kid, I'm getting into it now: Hyperion (try to finish this on tour) Game of thrones (just started) Last Wish (very nice so far)

Currently reading Rothfuss' "The Name of the Wind". Not far into it yet, but starting to get interesting.
Read "Needful Things" by Stephen King before this. Pretty good, but it is no IT.

Read High Life by Matthew Stokoe about a month ago. Good, but really fucked up. Incest, snuff shows, lots of drugs, corpse-fucking and more. I thought I was pretty desensitized and I cringed a lot.
Just finished Slaughterhouse Five, had never read it, enjoyable quick read, took me about five days. I need to read more Vonnegut, only read Breakfast of Champions and snippets of Welcome to the Monkey House.
Back on Private Empire: ExxonMobil and American Power, started that before Slaughterhouse Five, but it's hard to read for long periods of time so I needed something to break it up.

A friend of mine is big into Vonnegut, and gave me a small stack of his books so I could dig further into his writing. I too have only read Breakfast of Champions, and I'll probably read Slaughterhouse Five next.
Recently finished reading the first two parts of the 'Book of the New Sun' by Gene Wolfe, 'Ubik' by Philip K. Dick, and Al Jourgensen's autobiography. While waiting for the second two parts of Book of the New Sun to come in the mail, I picked up 'Good Omens' by Terry Pratchett/Neil Gaiman. It's a pretty funny story so far, though some of the footnotes in the book tend to distract me from the actual story.

Whoa, that sounds cool. I always wanted to check out some of the Discworld novels after remembering my brother playing the game as a kid.

Finished reading "The Primal Screamer" by Nick Blinko. I enjoyed it quite a bit, and I think being more or less familiar with RP's discography aided in that. Blinko's visuals are excellent, and the subtle suspense he uses to build the plot (which eventually begins to parallel the early days of RP) was very engaging. Recommended if you're a fan of the band.
Got more books for Xmas:
"Hyperion" - Dan Simmons "Sword and Citadel" (3rd and 4th parts of the Book of the New Sun" - Gene Wolfe "Fifth Head of Cerberus" - Gene Wolfe
Going to finish up "Good Omens" before I move onto the rest of the Book of the New Sun. Excited to eventually start Hyperion as well.
I also received a Barnes and Noble gift card that I'll probably use to get more of the stuff on my reading list. I'm definitely interested in reading "In The Penal Colony" by Kafka, "Notes From The Underground" by Dostoyevsky, "Blood Meridian" by McCarthy, and practically anything by Philip K. Dick. The last PKD I read was "Ubik", which was almost hard to follow (psychics, anti-psychics, suspended animation, it's a total mindfuck), but you feel something stirring as the story moves along and then he decimates you with one of the most well-executed twists I've read. Probably my favorite story of his so far. I think I'm going to tackle the VALIS trilogy next, when I get around to it.

Always wondered about that one, I like his lyrics and artwork a lot.
I have Notes from the Underground and a Kafka collection with that one, need to get around to them both. I read Radio Free Albemuth, which was what he expanded into the VALIS trilogy, which was good and I'd recommend it if you don't want to commit to three books.
Still trudging through Private Empire as well as reading through back issues of Modern Farmer, The Country Grind and National Geographic. I go through the Nat Geos for collage material and then bookmark anything that sounds cool. The last one was about the mass extinction we're undergoing and whether or not we are in fact in the anthropocene epoch. Before that it was an article about modern slavery which was cool.

I plan to finish Good Omens tonight, and I think I'll start Hyperion afterwards. Looking forward to it! And Radio Free Albemuth was another one that looked to have a crazy plot, I'll definitely add it to the list.
