My ex used to listen to Jawbreaker. That band made me want to smash my own skull in with a hammer just so I could be doing something less painful than listening to Jawbreaker.

I love The Format, but that's no secret. I've also been known to sing along to this:

I harbor no shame in liking the music I like. I love pre- "Warning" Green Day. They were the first band I actually dug on my own accord when I was like 7.
I fucking hate Jawbreaker, though.

Also noteworthy to this thread, I've been jammin' "American Psycho" in my car recently and liking it.
...I need new CDs.

I can also get down on some Green Day. I don't put it on, but if it comes on I'll sing along.

This thread is making me want to listen to the B-52s right now. There should be no such thing as Rock Lobster Guilt. I don't feel guilty about the music I like, and I listen to some odd stuff; blaxploitation movie soundtracks, 80's new wave galore, 40's swing jazz, cowboy songs, african music, japanese drum music... Perhaps my occasional enjoyment of LeAnn Rimes? That is some pretty crap pop country, but I only listen to her maybe twice a year. What does Jawbreaker sound like? I remember Jawbox, who were kinda OK...

It's not really guilt so much as wanting to look into elementary school era nostalgia. (also I'm talking about the Cosmic Thing CD, the one with Love Shack on it. I did karaoke to that song at a school dance in 7th grade and became the hit of the night. People like watching other people add headbanging and funky dance moves to their karaoke, or at least they do at age 13)
I also enjoy listening to Pearl Jam because they're my dad's favorite band, even saw them once with him. I never go out of my way to listen to them or anything but if it's playing I can get into it.

I had a Jawbox tape that I got. Iunno, Jawbreaker just kind of reminds me of like Rites Of Spring.. indie/emo jams.

Do you think emo kids have guilty pleasures that are all extreme forms of punk and metal?

I can dig some black metal in small doses but at this point in time the genre seems to be attracting quite a few hipsters. When it slows down it'll be more worthwhile.

black metal is the new trend. and it's boring. AHAHA.. There are a shit ton of amazing black metal bands in the US right now that people are shitting on because there not cult and from Europe. (Fell voices, Ash Borer, All the black twilight bands, Skagos). Good Music is good music...

I can't remember the last black metal band I got into. Maybe The Legion or Wolves in the Throne Room. I still say that's one of the best names I've heard in a long time.

Most of my guilty pleasures are 80's pop / new wave.
I have a few LPs of this. Corey Hart, Men at Work, Wham!
I especially love the song "99 Luftballoons"
also, i found Prince's "Purple Rain" LP at goodwill 2 weeks ago. it's awesome.
