Kuchar, what kind of amp + cab do you use? I've never been a big fan of active pickups, but I'd like to try a guitar with Blackouts thru my Randall or Ampeg just so see if they sound heavier in a grindy solid state amp. i use laboga mr hector and different cabinets from h&k, marshall to mesa - different ones on different recordings. last were even recorded thru plugin in nuendo ;] but one important thing: i use blackouts to hellisheaven and enth in suffering mind i preffer passive SD SH13

Amp: Marshall V100 model from 1984 w/ 4x12 slant Is that the 100V 8100 valvestate, or the model before/after that? The pawn shop had a beat up 8100 last year, but it was too much $$ for the condition. Would like to try one of those - the one I tried had great distortion, but cut out like crazy.

Not sure, I'd have to check when I'm home from work tonight. It's an awesome head regardless, though. I got the head/cab for 400 from a friend a few years ago. I feel like I got a pretty good bargain. I like the sound I get out of this amp more than my friend's triple rec which I used on a couple of tracks on our last recording.

Someone should start a web page like Metal Encyclopedia or Kill From The Heart, where band's and fan's submit what equipment was used for each album. If this already exists please let me know!

I bought a Fuzz War yesterday. Thing is fucking gross. You and Dom and Nick really need to quit giving me the urges to buy another fuzz pedal!!! hahaha! I want a monster bass fuzz soooooo bad. I can make the Swollen Pickle work OK for bass, but soooooo want a DE Ruiner or a MK Magnetar, Megalith or Behemoth II...

i really wanna try out a swollen pickle pedal, its worth giving it a try just for the name guitar center stores and such carry the Dunlop/ Way Huge pedals now, they shouldn't be too hard to find + try one out. It's a good fuzz, maybe the best commerical 'mega-doom' fuzz pedal, but it could use much better 'controls'. To adjust some of the important features, you actually have to open it up, which is stupid as hell. Just put them on the box to futz with cuz one of the controls is crap (hi pass filter that sucks worse than a Rat's). I don't think you'd give up the Death Metal for it, but maybe? I like it for getting a Dwarves-like skuzz punk guitar sound, doom downtuned guitar, and I googled up some info that's making it sound fugly as hell for grindcore bass. Never liked it for grind guitar or with any solid state amp, YMMV.

The fuzz war is awesome because it has only one knob aside from volume, which is good for getting a consistent tone. If I want a fuzz pedal, I want it to be straight forward, I'll buy other pedals for other shit. I'd still like to try a frantone bassweet though. The best bass fuzz I've heard, aside from the Mountainking Megalith, which is super complex.

Is that a modded Danelectro Black Coffee? Sure looks like it... I wouldn't spend a lot of $$ on it if it was.

Tried to get a used fuzz pedal too - a Fuzzhugger Great Wall, but the doof from CL never wrote me back about it.

Sold two guitars and a combo amp. 1/3 for label, 1/3 for gas, 1/3 for gearz. PEDALZ! L to R: Dwarfcraft Passenger Plane Plus; weird + cool boost-fuzz-gate, got on trade. Boss Heavy Metal HM-2; like new, as in never-used like new. Made in Korea, not Japan, but a total craigslist steal + the guy threw in the Boss 9v adapter. Hello Swedish death tone. Katanasound Thundercloud; clone of a 70's ram's head muff, like a big muff without losing your mids. Beautiful fuzz pedal, ebay find. Devi Ever Cherry Pop; mega heavy fuzz, tho it can do lighter fuzz at the lower sweep of fuzz + volume control. Tone adds a nearly speaker wrecking amount of bass. Forum buy. Then I bought a stack of stuff from a dude who lived in the middle of nowhere; $300 for a tube head, a behringer 4x12, an Ibanez Gio G70 guitar, crappy 2x12 ss combo, wah, korg multiFX pedal, cables, stand. He insisted the head was a Peavey, tho it clearly says MADE IN ENGLAND BY LANEY on the back. I sold half the other crap already, and I pretty much got a GH50L for $50. Gonna keep this beast, it already has good fat ass 6L6 tubes in it too! Craziness. And now I can sell another amp. Anyone want a Crate Vintage Club 50? They break down way less than those crappy Ampeg V4 amps... AHEM. ;D

I used to have a Crate Vintage Club 50. The head or one of the combos? I love the clean channel + how it sounds with pedals, but the OD isn't as awesome as some online reviews say. Good intro tube amp... It's going on CL tho, I don't use reverb or channel switching, and the Laney growls at it. How has your tube amp been holding up with all the practicing- recording?

I had a head version of it. Current tube amp has been fine *knock on wood* I need to build a box for a 2x12 and go pick up this 1x10 little cab so I don't have to run 4x12 or 4x10s for recording because it's way too fucking loud.

You might think about getting a power attenuator instead. I almost always play out of 2-1x12's or a 2x12, and it's not really any less loud (just easier to move!). If you got an attenuator, you could get the OD and sound you like, and then dial the output down to a good recording level... Even my 15 watt amp on 7 watts thru 2 - 1x12's is crazy loud.
