as far as menial just above minimum wage jobs go it definitely is. my boss even comes to shows sometimes and we always talk about tunes/bond over our mutual love of doom and sluge metal.

I'm a javascript/coffeescript programmer, for the last year or so I've been writing iPhone & iPad apps full time. I do some website stuff here and there too. It rules, I get to come into work stoned, walk around barefoot and eat free snacks all day.

Are you on salary? It's not truly the dream until you're working 50+ hours a week for a 40 hour paycheck.

Rules don't keep me from getting stoned before work though as they were definitely onto something with this: Albeit, they got the substance of choice all wrong.

My brother did the math and the last time he was managing a kitchen he was making below minimum wage on an hourly basis. I don't mind working 50 hours with overtime and cash tip outs.

My neighbor has been a general manager at a few restaurants in the town i work in, he's gone anywhere from 55-90 hour weeks on salary

I've done the 50+ hour work week before, but it wasn't restaurant work.

I work 60 or so hours a week. After 40, I get time and a half for O/T. No tips. I work as a mental health counselor for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and chemical dependency who are living in adult foster care.

Woah... did I just see a ghost??
Since I deal heavily in W2's I work a butt load of overtime in January... up until recently I was hourly which made it awesome... now I'm salary and it doesn't rule nearly as much.
I have no problem with working overtime but if I was being asked to work 90 hours a week for only 40 hours worth of pay I'd be looking for another job or a significant raise, fuck that.

I was just thinking today that Corey never stopped by here anymore. There are many reasons I'm actively seeking new employment and inane requests, a poor toolkit and obliterating my social life and social energy (I already lack enough of this) with 14 hour workdays doing things that have nothing to do with my skill set are among them. Honestly, I lurk daily, though.

At my last job, it was impossible to get overtime. Hell, it was sometimes impossible to get my guaranteed 37 hrs/wk due to the families cancelling for whatever reason.
Now, I'm basically swimming in it. Time and a half after 40 hours, double pay on holidays.
And yeah, if there wasn't the time and a half incentive, I would not be about it whatsoever.
